Cake of the Day!
Since I am in Texas right now and will be attending the Texas Rangers vs Anaheim Angels game tonight, I thought it would be fitting to feature a Texas Rangers Cake. Today's Cake of the Day comes from CakeCentral.

How to Plan a Large Birthday Party-Part 1: Creating an Itinerary and Invitations
When planning a large birthday party, especially if it is going to require people to travel, you must FIRST outline the entire party in terms of what you will be doing on each day. The easiest way to do this is by opening up a Word document, writing out a 24 hour day and inputting things you would like to do on designated hours. This week I will get into more of that process, but for now, the most important thing to consider when guests need to fly/drive to your party is where they are going to stay. For my birthday party I wanted us to stay in the Beverly Hills/Hollywood area so I chose W Los Angeles-Westwood as our hotel to stay at. Why? W Los Angeles-Westwood has extremely spacious rooms and fit the trendy, young atmosphere that I wanted for my guests.
Now the WORST thing you can do is simply book a hotel and not check it out first. Go to the hotel and make sure that it fits all your explicit needs.
Another thing to keep in mind is how your guests will be getting around throughout your party. Especially when accommodating a large group, you must have clarity and structure with transportation so people don't get lost. To fix any hiccups along the way, I ordered a limo for the weekend. Other options could be a party bus or even setting up taxis. The limo company that I used was Five Star Limousine located in the Southern California area. There were punctual with excellent service!!
Once you have decided on an itinerary for your birthday party, created a potential guest list, and have chosen a theme with your main colors for your birthday party it's time to send out invitations! As much as I love hand making invites, there is another creative way and that is through Vistaprint! Since my theme was Mardi Gras meets Masquerade I chose a design that mirrored the theme.

My Birthday Party-The Intro
Planning an event for a large group of people is definitely a huge task, but very rewarding when things go according to plan. Favorite Birthday Decoration: Paper Lanterns
To be quite honest, paper lanterns are my favorite decorative piece for all occasions, not just for birthdays! When you are thinking about having a high focal point, paper lanterns are the way to go.
Paper lanterns come in all shapes and sizes and it is fun to use them to enhance your theme colors.
You can purchase paper lanterns just about anywhere! I personally love getting them at Michaels, Party City, Martha Stewart, or Target. All you need is some chicken wire and tape (which you can also obtain at the aforementioned stores) and you are set.

BIRTHDAY Cake of the Day!
Unda tha sea....unda tha sea...Yes, I can spell, I just wanted to introduce today's Cake of the Day, Birthday Edition, in its truest form. Today's cake comes from The Icing on the Cake. Marj Jenkins is the creator of all the lovely cakes you see in her blog and she is not cliche when it comes to her cake creations.
The unique thing about Marj Jenkin's cakes is that almost all of her cakes are iced in very smooth butter cream as opposed to fondant icing so it looks like fondant, but tastes a lot yummier.

Tickle Me ELMO Birthday Party
My next all time favorite birthday party is an Elmo Birthday Party all the way down in Brazil! Mog & Mug posted this lovely party she threw for her son, and though it was written in Spanish, it was not hard to tell how much thought was put into this amazing party. She stuck to a theme with the colors of red and all things Elmo being employed throughout the decorations from the food to her high and low focal points
She activated many of the senses I continue to talk about. Check it out!
The dessert table had beautiful tablecloth patterns. Just because her main theme color was red, she manipulated it with polka dots, a damask cloth, and the white and yellow color to contrast it. I love it!
Focusing on the desserts, she dressed them up perfectly! One of my favorite places to shop when looking for things to dress up my food is ETSY.
