Happy Halloween!

This past weekend I got to host my first Halloween Party! Even with the limited space I had to work with and a couple restrictions, I still managed to pull off what people felt was a fun Halloween Bash. The key to tying together any type of Halloween decor is to add COBWEBS! The cobwebs really enhance that spooky, Halloweeny look. Check out the pics!

Party of the Month: McWhirter Wedding at Coquelicot Estate Vineyard

What do you get when you mix a barn, a vineyard, beautiful people, and love? You get this month's "Party of the Month": McWhirter Wedding at Coquelicot Estate Vineyard.


Earlier this month I had the pleasure of attending one of my sorority sister's weddings in Solvang, CA and I was blown away by the simple, yet classy and elegant decor done by the event planners at Coquelicot Estate Vineyard.


COQUELICOT, pronounced (ko-klee-ko) is the name “en Fran├žais” of the striking red poppy flower that graces the French countryside, as well as all the labels on the estates wines. The 58 acre vineyard is an organically farmed property in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley and it was on the vineyard that the wedding ceremony took place.


While the vineyard was beautiful, some of my favorite decor was at the reception area right outside the barn where the main celebration took place. The wedding planners acknowledged that after the ceremony everyone would be full of energy ready to mingle so props like a photo booth and "Just Married" car sat outside the barn to keep guests preoccupied. Not only that, but a galore of amazing appetizers and beverages (wine, no hard liquor which is a good idea for a wedding) plus live entertainment awaited guests.







But, the decor inside is what topped all the decor! The bride and groom decided on elegant, classy colors: light purple, shades of pink, and dark silver. These colors were shown off inside the barn.


The best way to really describe all of the decor would be Country Vintage. From the elegant chandelier that dangled from the ceiling of the barn...


to the barrel tables..


to the cute gift bird cage..


to the dinner menu written out in chalk...


and much, MUCH more!



One thing I never miss at a wedding is dessert and staying true to the Country Vintage theme, the dessert table had a plethora of traditional country desserts including apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, and lemon raspberry cake to name a few!





People were definitely having a great time in the barn, courtesy of the onsite DJ. I am a firm believer that you should incorporate both a live band and DJ at your wedding; the live band to add that classy musical touch, and the DJ to really bring people out dancing on the dance floor.



All in all, the wedding was fantastic and the wedding planners at Coquelicot Estate Vineyard truly brought the bride and groom's vision to life.

DIY Halloween Haunted House!

It's the most spooky time of the year, so partake in the scary fun of Halloween by hosting your own Halloween Haunted House. I for one am all about going ALL OUT, and what better way than turning your own house into a Haunted House?!


In one of my blog entries, "Props Till You Drop", I talked about how using props can really enhance a party and activate an important sense: sight. Thus, at your Halloween Haunted House props are a MUST. The best way to search for unique Halloween props is to try and locate props stores near your city or online.

Party with a K at the PWOCN Event!

Sky is the limit. Sky Ultra Lounge in Bellevue, WA is the limit. Located in the Bellevue Galleria on the 3rd floor, this restaurant/lounge is the perfect venue to host a private event.Since this post this venue has been shut down - sorry!!


The ambiance is upscale, chic, and sophisticated and the staff there is more than accommodating. There at Sky Ultra Lounge they provide you with the tables and table cloths for your private event and they also have a great menu so you can serve your guests during your party.

I took Party with a K there today to be apart of the Professional Women of Color Network Mixer and the whole thing was a hit! See pictures below and don't forget to check out Sky Ultra Lounge when planning your next event!

Recipe of the Day: Brain Cupcakes

Need some "food for thought"? Brain cupcakes coming right up!


With Halloween around the corner, I am sure you are getting ready to bake some ghoulish treats, so this week I will feature some awesome recipes that you can make for your Halloween Party.

First up, Brain Cupcakes from Disney Family Fun!

Ingredients

-Cake Batter of your choice (for a dozen cupcakes)
-Food coloring: yellow, pink, and green
-Buttercream frosting

Baking Tools
-pastry bag (to fill the frosting with)
-#10 round tip (to place on the pastry bag)

Instructions

Step#1-Bake a batch of 1 dozen cupcakes; let cool.

Step#2-In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of buttercream frosting with a couple drops of yellow and pink food coloring and a touch of green food coloring until you have a hue you like (light orange).

Step#3-Spread a coat of the now light orange icing onto the dozen cupcakes.

Step#4-Place remaining light orange icing into a pastry bag. Secure it with a #10 round tip to top it off.

Step#5-Using the now icing filled pastry bag, top the dozen cupcakes with fat zigzags. It works best to first pipe two zigzags down the middle and then fill in the sides.

Brain cupcakes COMPLETE!
