Food Scent

The most obvious way to activate scent at a party is by food. BUT, not just any food! It should be food that permeates through the air and entices your guests to want to eat. Below are a list of foods I would recommend making right before your guests arrive:

-Cookies (snicker doodle, chocolate chip, sugar to name a few)
-Cake/pie
-Popcorn
-Curry chicken
-Blueberry muffins/pancakes
-Bacon & eggs

When you make these types of foods for parties guess what you are also doing besides activating scent? You are also activating TASTE! See how the five senses work together?!

I hope now you have a better understanding of all the ways in which you can activate scent. Stay tuned on how to activate the other senses; feeling and hearing!

Scents for the BOYS!

If you're having the guys over why not play with their sense of smell? My two favorite candles to light on a Boy's Night are the Sunflower scented candles in the Heritage line from Gold Canyon Candles and the Cinnamon Vanilla scented candles also in the Heritage line.

Don't let the words "flower" and "vanilla" fool you as studies show that men love warm, feminine scents. These candles have been tested around the men and have received lots of approval! The Sunflower candle resembles fields of blooming sunflowers, as it was made with a blend of a bouquet of peach, rose, and geranium. The Cinnamon Vanilla scented candle truly activates scent with its genuine cinnamon and vanilla blend to create a combination of sweet and spicy.

Mmm WHAT'S THAT SMELL?!

"MMm! What's that smell?!" is EXACTLY the reaction you want from your guests when they walk into a party you are hosting. The best way to activate scent is through the use of candles.

Now, the 'World's Finest' candles are from Gold Canyon Candles which are the only candles, in my opinion, that last long and successfully permeate throughout many rooms.

The best thing about these candles is that they offer HUNDREDS of different scents! The long-lasting fragrance of each scent really impressed me and I couldn't believe how many different fragrances there were to begin with from Warm Apple Crisp in their Baking Line to Ginger Lime, Cinnamon Vanilla, Sugar Cookie in the Heritage line, and Harmony from their Essentially Soy Aromatherapy line just to name a few.

These candles are perfect to set any mood you desire! Because I love Gold Canyon Candles so much, this week's lesson on activating scent will center around the different fragrances Gold Canyon Candles provide in order to set the right mood for your party. I will also introduce you to a couple of other scents that can activate scent as well.

LESSON #1- PART 3: Activating SCENT

When you think of the movie theater what scents do you equate it with? For me, the first thing that pops in my head is POPCORN! Did you know that businesses like the movie theater, use popcorn as a selling tactic? They figure, if the smell of popcorn is permeating through the air when you walk in, that will send a signal to your brain that you are hungry for popcorn. Smart, because that is EXACTLY what we humans do when it comes to desirable scents.

What happens when you inhale warm, buttery popcorn is that a group of cells is stimulated, and that group sends a combination of signals to the olfactory bulb—the site at the very front of the brain where smell perception takes place. This unique combination of signals tells the brain the odor is the smell of popcorn.

Smell is the sense most closely connected to our moods and recollections. Catching a whiff of the perfume your mother wears is likely to bring back stronger memories of her — and the feelings associated with her — than seeing her photo. That can happen before you are even conscious of the scent. That’s because an incoming odor proceeds directly to your limbic system, which handles memories and emotions; non-olfactory perception must go to the hypothalamus and then on to the cortex for further analysis (www.salon.com).

Don't you want to elicit strong, positive, emotions for your guests at your party? This week we will discuss how you can activate scent to trigger a good experience for your guests!
